Sing unto God
Sestina Music presents Music of Celebration - joyous music from the courts of Europe - music on a grand scale for three trumpets, timpani, woodwind, strings with glorious choruses and virtuoso vocal solos. Opening with the well-loved Coronation Anthem by G.F. Handel - Zadok the Priest, we will hear the Te Deum from the court of Louis XIV in Versailles; originally written to celebrate the birth of Jean Baptiste Lully's son in 1677, this piece became a well-loved work performed on many state occasions. Come, ye Sons of Art by Henry Purcell, a Birthday ode for Queen Mary of England in 1694 and includes the famous duet Sound the Trumpet. Bach's cantata Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir was written to celebrate the inauguration of the Leipzig town council in 1731. Sing unto God by Handel was written to mark the occasion of the Wedding of Prince Fredrik Prince of Wales and Princess Augusta Saxe-Gotha in 1736.
